1) Califone (May 7th at the Green Room)

Califone, comprised of Joe Adamik, Jim Becker, Ben Massarella and Tim Rutili, cross-pollinate the blues, folk music, and broken electronic instruments to create a series of intricate and personal hymnals delivered in the group's own unique "electro-rustic" vocabulary. Their music is worn and weary yet new and even beautiful; it resists any genre traps. Califone's music evokes Delta mud, Appalachian hills, Big Star country, and the murky ether of computer time/space.

Their live performances move seamlessly from ballads and stomps to atmospheric improvised pieces that incorporate banjo, violin, guitars, electronics, keyboards, and "found-object" percussion and noise.

2) Tour De Nez (June 13-16)

Tour de Nez, which means "tour of the nose," is a three-day celebration that has become one of the most popular cycling events in the West.  The party came first -- as a way to thank customers at an eclectic coffee house called the Deux Gros Nez in an old Reno neighborhood.  Now that Deux Gros Nez has closed, Tim Healion is focusing all of his energy on the race.

3) Dada Motel (June 28-30)

Dada Motel is a self-devised artistic celebration that took place in Reno's historic downtown El Cortez Hotel and other locations during the summer of 2008. Over the course of a few days, 28 Reno artists and performers joined together to rent rooms and fill venues in Reno's Downtown District in a celebration of Reno's unlimited potential for absurdity. With participation from over sixty creators in all disciplines, artists found that doing-it-ourselves was the antidote to too much artworld-spoon-feeding.
